COFHE/UC&R 2008 Joint Study Conference Liverpool Hope University, June 23rd to 26th
Conference Theme: Libraries make a difference : building a learning culture
This conference aims to equip information professionals with the skills to ensure that their learning resources services meet the challenges created by the very different learning styles and expectations of students in the 21st century. Technology-rich open access learning spaces, using innovative design to cope with a wide range of learning needs, are the emerging blueprint for learning resource services today. These create new challenges for managers in design, funding, staffing and working across traditional boundaries to deliver services that support student achievement and build a learning culture. The conference will bring to bear the experiences of a wide range of practitioners managing at the cutting edge of these developments.
CoFHE/UC&R 2008 Conference, Main Speakers
Speakers: All four principal speakers are now confirmed, and we are delighted to welcome such distinguished practitioners in their respective fields to our conference. They are:
Joyce Little, Director of Liverpool City Libraries, who is currently leading a major regeneration of the city’s libraries to take them into the 21st Century.
Jackie Fisher, DBE, Principal and Chief Executive of Newcastle College, who has led one of the largest FE colleges in the country to success, and recently added Skelmersdale College to her organisation’s portfolio.
Dr David Collins, CBE, Principal and Chief Executive of South Cheshire College, who has repeatedly led his college to outstanding inspection grades, and is leading a total rebuilding of his college’s estate to meet modern learning needs
Alison McKenzie, Dean of Learning Services at Edge Hill University, and formerly of Manchester Metropolitan and Bangor University Libraries. Alison is leading a service in a new and expanding university which is changing rapidly to meet the expectations of today’s learners.
Our four main speakers will each provide their own take on how we create a learning culture, fit for the needs of learners in the 21st century. This will embrace topics such as design and fit of learning spaces, creating a culture of learning throughout the organisation, how to pay for it and make the case effectively to your chief executive, managing at the speed of change to meet the needs of the Google generation and where libraries and learning resources services are likely to be positioned in the future.
