The CILIP East of England branch would like to invite you to the above event which will take place at the McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research, Downing Street, Cambridge between 14:00 and 17:00 on Saturday 12 May.

Come along to pose your questions to Phil, find out what the Special Interest Groups and Regional Branch have to offer and how you can get involved to help us better meet your professional needs. There will also be plenty of time to meet colleagues from across the region and discuss the issues that matter most to you.

Visit to Southwell Minster Library, Nottinghamshire

This historic library has some 1200 titles dating from the late C16th to the C19th. The earliest printed book dates from 1505, though several leaves of a 1493 edition of the Codex Juris Civilis were discovered in re-binding another book.
There will be an opportunity to visit the Minster.

Sourcing Sport: Current research; British Library resources

Unlock the secrets of the British Library's sports collections in this Olympic and Paralympic year by joining British Library curators and academic experts in a one-day conference. Participants will be given a chance to discover a wide range of sport resources, from sound files, ephemera, images and historical materials to publications from other countries, including the US and Russia, The speakersm including Professor John Horne, Professor Andrew Sparkes, Professor Matthew taylor and Professor kath Woodward, will be looking at some fascinating and unusual items from the collections and showcasing theri explorations into the world of sport research. The event will be rounded off by a panel discussion about sports resources and future research needs, so there will eb plenty of time to put you own ideas across, We'll be glad to hear them.

Portfolio Building

Book to attend a Portfolio building course in the Eastern Region on
Thursday June 21st. An opportunity to hear about and discuss the
regulations, listen to mentors, and ask questions of successful
candidates. There will be plenty of opportunity to think about how to
write reflectively and doing a skills audit.

The event will take place at Ely Public Library from 1.30 to 4.45.

The event is free, but booking is essential.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Academic & Research Libraries group (ARLG) of CILIP formerly the Colleges of Further & Higher Education (CoFHE) group of CILIP and the University, College and Research (UC&R) group of CILIP for 2012 will be held in the Herschel Building, Newcastle University, Claremont Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE1 7RU, on Tuesday 26th June 2012, starting at 4.30pm.

In accordance with Bye-law 4 Affiliate Members, Certificated Affiliates, Associate Members, Chartered Members, Chartered Fellows and Honorary Fellows are entitled to vote at the AGM. Others are not entitled to vote but are welcome to attend as observers.

In this ISKO UK and BCS joint seminar, we shall remind ourselves of the basics: the principles of classification, the philosophy, and the research into cognitive psychology. We shall hear from experts in five different fields where classification is applied. The employment opportunities too will be considered, before we join breakout groups to consider what we can and should do to develop our understanding and skills, and to engage the next generation of knowledge organizers. We hope to arrange demonstrations from vendors of software designed to handle classification automatically.
