New CILIP organisational structure

In March 2011, CILIP Council agreed a new organisation structure. It came into effect from 1 July 2011. It has been created to focus on the priorities that were identified in the Defining Our Professional Future report and to deliver CILIP’s Vision and Mission.

These changes are in response to feedback from members and non-members.

In the spring of 2010, CILIP carried out a major survey called Defining Our Professional Future. More than 3,500 people gave their views about what they wanted from CILIP. The feedback was clear. The things people want CILIP to do most are advocacy and thought leadership, networking and creating a community, and continuing professional development. The three new directorates are: professional services, external relations and resources.

Professional Services
The focus of the team is on member services, creating community and active recruitment by bringing together all areas of activity that relate directly to members.

The Head of Continuing Professional Development will lead a team of advisers on qualifications, who will advise students, Chartership candidates, employers and education institutions.

The Head of Customer Services will lead a team focused on supporting members with advice and information, supporting branches and groups, and also administering membership joining and renewal.

The quality and relevance of Facet’s publications are directly linked to CILIP’s Continuous Professional Development services, and Facet's publishing output helps develop professional skills.

External Relations
The focus of the team will be CILIP’s communications, advocacy, campaigning and marketing functions with the purpose of raising profile and leading campaigns that influence policy.

The Events and Marketing team will deliver a programme of high-profile events.

The Communications, Campaigns and Online Information team will work on media relations, campaigns.

Resources
The team brings together responsibilities for finance, human resources ICT and facilities. It will focus on effectively managing the organisation’s operational functions.

The facilities team provides front line customer care. This team will have administrative support to help with in-house events.

The finance team will be responsible for payroll, accounts and all other finance support functions. The ICT and Web team will provide technical support for managing the website and databases.

CILIP in Scotland
CILIP in Scotland (CILIPS) and the Scottish Library and Information Council will continue to share staff and resources. CILIPS Council liaises closely with CILIP Council and staff.
