    Biography

Head of Library and Information Services, The City of Edinburgh

I have a good track record in libraries and information services, digital inclusion, electronic content development and information management. Before taking up the Head of Libraries and Information Service role in Edinburgh in 2009 I worked for Talis Information as Business Development Manager where I travelled across the UK and Ireland meeting with colleagues from all kinds of library services.

Prior to that I was Head of East Renfrewshire’s Libraries and Information Services. and held a variety of roles with Renfrew District, East Kilbride and Glasgow from Trainee to Senior Community Librarian.

Public library priorities in Edinburgh have been to work with colleagues to transform services, and to create a positive profile for the Library Service. The service is now held in very high regard by both the Council and external stakeholders.

It is apparent that the city’s libraries are changing fast! Developing libraries as key community, information, digital, learning and business hubs. Developing partnerships at local and national levels in a strategic approach to local service delivery.  Developing a connected community toolkit  and through creative use of social media, e-books, a new app, electronic community information, the virtual library, self service and wi-fi.

One of my major projects is the development of the city’s Central Library and improvement of the Libraries Estate. Edinburgh is bucking the trend in joiners, issues, events and innovative services and are currently refurbishing 3 and building 2 new libraries.

I passionately believe in libraries and the world of library and information professionals. I have worked on the frontline, in reference libraries, in ICT and a huge variety of management roles during my career.
