Biography

I have recently retired as Service Director: Libraries, Learning and Culture, at Cambridgeshire County Council, where my responsibilities included Public Libraries, Archives, Adult and Community Learning, Student Finance, Nextstep and Cultural Services including Museums.

Having originally started as a trainee librarian working for Cornwall County Council at Saltash Library I then and attended Library School at Birmingham College of Commerce, before returning to Cornwall to work as a team librarian. I also became qualified in personnel and HR management. During a career spanning over 40 years I held senior posts in Kensington and Chelsea in London, as well as working for the last 20 years in Cambridgeshire.

Despite retiring from local government, I remain very active nationally and as well as my new commitment to CILIP as a Trustee, I Chair of the Libraries, Archives and Information Services National Employers Panel. I am a Governor of Huntingdonshire Regional College, and most recently I have agreed to become a Founding Board Member for Suffolk’s Libraries IPS, the body being established to run the public library service in Suffolk in the future.
