Candidate manifesto

The time to be modest and traditional has gone this is our time to be ambitious, high profile, proactive and innovative. I passionately believe in libraries and the world of library and information professionals. I believe in our ability to develop exciting approaches to innovation in the sharing of information, knowledge and learning. As the internet proliferates, information becomes more and more confusing and mobile technology is developing so rapidly, we have a real opportunity to lead.
I have worked on the frontline, in school and reference libraries, in the private IT sector and in a huge variety of management roles during my career. I have used my skills in organisational transformation, channel shift, social media, digital and electronic information management across the UK and Europe. I have also developed expertise in digital and social inclusion, e-government and e-learning services – areas that affect us all. I love developing innovative services, networks and opportunities for cooperation and partnership.
I thrive on leading rapid transformation and have an exciting vision for the future of libraries, librarians and information professionals. Transformation isn't just about new technology it’s about challenging preconceptions, finding smarter, leaner ways of working and identifying opportunities in the midst of adversity.

I have led the use of social media to promote library services in Edinburgh, as well as being an advocate in the field of information literacy. I know I can champion and harness our fabulous, transferable skills to enable us to drive the agenda. I know I can promote the positioning of libraries in local government and educational institutions for economic wellbeing, information literacy and learning for employment, cultural identity and social justice and will do so by developing a higher profile nationally and internationally

I promise that, if elected, I will fulfil the role with passion, and skill.
