Biography
I started work for the public library service in 1994. I held a number of posts over the following 16 years, often focussed on diversity and inclusion, and am an active member of CILIP's Diversity Group. I have worked to provide valued library services for rural and urban communities, to schools, to people in sheltered accommodation and homes, for people with mental health concerns, prisoners, LGBT groups, and for migrant workers.
I have worked for a variety of branch and mobile public library services, worked with school librarians, the police service, health librarians, prison librarians, lifelong learning professionals, and been a grateful user at 2 academic libraries. I ran school libraries in Kenya and Jordan, and have made visits to public libraries in California, Eire and France.
I was made redundant in 2010, and currently I am completing my MCLIP, working in a second-hand book shop and as a waitress.
I am honoured to take on the role of CILIP Trustee. We are living in interesting times for libraries - responding to technological change, social transformation, and political developments.
