4 January 2005 – CILIP launches a free online guide to freedom information to coincide with the introduction of FOI legislation.

30 January 2005 – CILIP introduces Wi-Fi hotspots to its Ridgmount Street building enabling members get online while visiting the building for meetings, courses and events.

9 February 2005 – CILIP Council pledges to support the Sri Lankan Library Association in the country’s recovery from the Boxing Day Tsunami.

8 April 2005 – CILIP and SCONUL (the Society of College, National and University Libraries) agree a joint declaration on working together for the library and information profession.

13 April 2005 – CILIP’s Framework of qualifications is expanded to include a qualification for library and information assistants (ACLIP) and a scheme of voluntary revalidation of Chartership and Fellowship.

26 April 2005 – CILIP starts an RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feed from the CILIP website enabling web users to keep up with new information added to the site.

– University of Wales Bangor agrees to CILIP's offer of assistance on library service restructuring proposals

1 June 2005The New Walford Vol. 1 Science, Technology and Medicine is published by Facet Publishing, CILIP’s publishing house.

28 October 2005CILIP publishes legal advice on how library services need to respond to requests for access to confidential information by the Police and security services investigating serious crime or terrorism.

31 October 2005 – CILIP welcomes its 1,000th affiliate member.
