CILIP's Tsunami Fund nears £2,000

Institute expresses thanks to all those who have contributed so far

CILIP's Tsunami Fund, set up in April to help rebuild library services in Sri Lanka, has raised nearly £2,000 so far.

CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals established the Fund at the request of a number of individual CILIP members and groups, who wanted to do something to help their colleagues rebuild services destroyed by the Boxing Day tidal wave.

"The best way individuals and organisations concerned about library and information services can help is to make a donation to the CILIP Tsunami Fund," comments CILIP's Director of Knowledge and Information, Jill Martin.

Working in partnership

Anyone - non-CILIP members or outside organisations - can donate to the CILIP Tsunami Fund, CILIP International Officer, Julie Robinson, emphasises. "Any help or monies offered will be more effective if given collectively through an organisation like CILIP. And it's not too late because the monies raised will be used for the longer term reconstruction of LIS in Sri Lanka, rather than disaster relief."

CILIP International Panel and International Office will oversee the fund, which will be administered by CILIP's Finance Department. All the money will go to those who need it. There will be no administrative charges.

CILIP's International Office will use international contacts and work with IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations) to help ensure that funds go to the right people. And it will keep members informed about how the money is spent.

How to donate

To donate, please send a cheque payable to CILIP, and write 'Tsunami Fund' on the back. If you also enclose a completed Gift Aid form, CILIP (registered charity no 313014) can reclaim tax from the Department of Revenue & Customs. Please also mark the envelope 'Tsunami Fund' and send your donation to Angela Frampton, CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, 7 Ridgmount Street, London WC1E 7AE.
