Will oversee work on a new framework of qualifications in library and information work

News 30/06/03

CILIP’s Chartership Board - the only body in the United Kingdom to award independent guarantees of professional competency in library and information work - has a new Chair in Margaret Oldroyd.

“We’re delighted to announce that Margaret will take over as Chair of the Chartership Board in September,” said Marion Huckle, CILIP’s Head of Membership, Careers and Qualifications. “She succeeds Chris West, who has been Acting Chair since the sudden death of Justin Arundale last September.”

Margaret is Staff & Quality Development Manager in the Department of Library Services at De Montfort University and has been involved with Chartership and with the wider world of staff training and development, including NVQs, for some time. “Fellow Board members, staff and other colleagues from the wider community are all looking forward to working with her in her new role,” Ms Huckle continues. “Margaret is taking over the reins at an exciting and challenging time as the Board will shortly commence drawing up new Regulations for Chartered Membership as part of the work of developing and implementing a new Framework of Qualifications.”

Thanking Chris West for his work as Acting Chair since last September, she continued: “Chris has been a sympathetic and hard working Chair whose support for Board members and for CILIP staff has been much appreciated during a very busy time. We are all looking forward to continuing to benefit from his participation in Board affairs once he has stepped down from the Chair.”

Chris West will continue to represent CILIP’s Chartership Board on the judging panel for Chartership: your competitive edge - the 2003 CILIP/Online Information Personal Development Award, the winner of which will be announced at the Online Information Gala Dinner on December 3.
