Exclusive deal announced with Microsoft software reseller Phoenix Software
News 26/09/03
Members of CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals can now purchase a copy of their chosen Microsoft Office package at highly preferential prices, thanks to a deal negotiated with official Microsoft reseller Phoenix Software. Licensed for home use only, the offer is open to all currently paid-up personal CILIP members.
Under the scheme, CILIP members will be able to buy a range of Microsoft Office packages, plus a Windows XP upgrade if required, at a fraction of the price typically charged in a high street store.
"This is a very important affinity benefit that CILIP has been able to negotiate on behalf of its members," said Martin Stone, a member of CILIP's Recruitment & Retention Panel, which has overseen the deal. "Discounts of this kind have been available to students and teachers for some time, and it's only logical to extend them to library and information professionals, in recognition of their equally important learning role." CILIP's scale in terms of member numbers, and its authority as the leading membership organisation for library and information professionals in this country, enabled it to achieve this deal with Microsoft, he continued. "It means that our profession - and CILIP members in particular - rank as especially important customers in the eyes of the computer industry."
"We've been able to achieve remarkably good value for money for CILIP members with this deal," said CILIP's Head of External Relations Tim Buckley Owen, who handled the negotiations with both Microsoft and Phoenix. CILIP members can choose between Microsoft Office Standard, Professional or Office Mac, and can also opt for a Microsoft Windows XP Professional upgrade. The discount price includes the CD, licence (home use only), VAT and delivery. Prices - valid for the period 1 October 2003 to 30 January 2004 - range from £76 for Office Standard to £94 for Office Mac. This compares with prices of as much as £250-£350 for the same software from a leading high street chain.
To take advantage of the offer, CILIP members should visit www.phoenixs.co.uk/mscilipselect to download the PDF order form. Alternatively they can phone Viv Guy or John Claxton on 01904 700101 and be ready to give their CILIP membership number and the date they last renewed their membership.
