CILIP’s new-look website paves way for exclusive services for members

Launch of new design and navigation is first stage in ambitious web development programme

Brand new design and navigation are the first benefits of the comprehensive web development programme being undertaken by CILIP: the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. Launched in August, the new features include a completely redesigned look-and-feel, together with comprehensive navigation and search facilities.

Available at www.cilip.org.uk, CILIP’s website provides information and access to services for library and information professionals, as well as for those wishing to find out more about the profession. It replaces the original site that has been running since CILIP’s inauguration in April 2002.

“This is only the first phase of an ambitious Web Development Programme for CILIP,” comments Jill Martin, Director of Knowledge & Information at CILIP, with overall responsibility for web site development. “In 2005 and beyond we will be working with our web developers cScape to roll out further enhancements and features on the site, which will be at the heart of all CILIP’s work.”

“Later this year we will provide exclusive access to professional information and services for CILIP members only,” she continues. “There will also be the facility for members to update their own contact details.”
In the meantime, there are now several ways to find the information you need on CILIP’s new site:

  • Browse the themed sections from the homepage. You can move to a different section by using the Change Site Section box at the top of every page.

  • There is a brand new Search facility that will search the whole site for you using the keywords you type into the search box.

  • The Sitemap has links to all major sections of the site on one page

  • A-Z Index is a comprehensive directory of links to information provided on the site.

Further developments will be announced as they become available, so check www.cilip.org.uk regularly for details. CILIP members can also keep an eye on CILIP’s fortnightly Library and Information Gazette newspaper for the latest changes.
