Nominations open for CILIP Carnegie & Kate Greenaway Medals 2008

All CILIP members are invited to nominate titles for the CILIP Carnegie and Kate Greenaway Medals. Judged by a panel of CILIP Members from all over the UK, the Medals are the country's most prestigious Children's Book Awards.

The Medals celebrate the very best in children's literature and demonstrate the valuable work that CILIP members do in helping children and young people develop their literacy and social skills by reading for pleasure.

You can follow the progress of the Awards at www.ckg.org.uk

Over 60,000 young people in 3,200 school and public library groups take part in the shadowing scheme that accompanies the Awards. Further details on the scheme and a database of the reviews are on the website at www.ckg.org.uk/shadowing

2007/8 Timetable

Our mission is for the Medals to be the premiere children's and young people's book Award, promoting excellence in children's books and take the enjoyment of reading to the widest possible audience. To achieve this we have changed the timetable for the Awards to make it easier for bookshops to be involved and allow schools in Northern Ireland and Scotland to take part in the shadowing scheme more easily.

26 October 2007 - close of nominations
9 November 2007 - nominations announced
18 April 2008 - shortlists announced
26 June 2008 - winners announced
