CILIP's Publicity and Public Relations Group - “Libraries are there for people from the cradle to the grave"
Neill Oakley, member of CILIP's PPRG, explained to the Bookseller why it's so important that library services are socially inclusive and stressed the importance of the Home Library Service.
“At the end of the day, the library service is for everyone,” says Neill Oakley, senior librarian, publicity for Surrey County Council Libraries and a member of Chartered Institute of Library & Information Professionals’ publicity and public relations group. “Libraries are there for people from the cradle to the grave. These people are lifelong readers and should not be forgotten.”

The Home Library Service (HLS) has been offered by libraries for the best part of 40 years. Run and funded
by libraries in each region of the UK, the free service is designed to lend books to the elderly and housebound.
It generally enlists the help of volunteers, who give up their free time to keep people reading—although some services, such as the one in Birmingham, employ staff members.
