Kathy’s career began in 1981 when she was appointed as a library assistant at Hammersmith and Fulham Public libraries. Kathy worked for Hammersmith and Fulham for four years, during which time she studied, part-time, for a postgraduate diploma in librarianship.
In 1985 Kathy moved into the further education sector, as assistant librarian at Willesden College of Technology. The following 15 years saw moves to Havering College as Librarian and Waltham Forest College as Library Services Manager, before taking up a post at CILIP (formerly Professional Adviser, Academic and Research Libraries at The Library Association) in 2000.
In her current role Kathy is Senior Adviser in the Department of Knowledge and Information. This post involves providing advice on library and information related issues to CILIP members and others interested in library and information services in the UK.
Kathy was an active member of the Colleges of Further and Higher Education (CoFHE) Group of The Library Association from 1985 to 2000, working on the National Committee from 1990 to 2000 and serving as Chair of that committee in 1995 and 1996. She is the editor of the 5th and 6th editions of the CoFHE Guidelines for learning resource service in further and higher education.
