Omar Al-Malazi

Omar comes from the Middle East and has been in the UK for 8 years; he studied an honours degree in Economics and then had an administrative job for two and a half years in a small company in the oil exploration business. In 2000 he had the opportunity to come to UK to work in the same company. He was advised to study accounting to further his career prospects, as most degrees from the Middle East are not recognised in Europe. After two years he realised that he hated accounting and decided to do a BA in Media and Business Applications with Birkbeck College in London and he is in his third year now.

In March 2006 Omar joined the Membership Department of CILIP as a temporary Membership Executive and in the beginning of 2007 he was offered the permanent position.

Currently Omar works with two other Membership Executives as part of the Corporate Marketing and Membership team, which includes five people in total. His main responsibilities are direct debit payments, the Care database and customer service. Omar has been increasingly involved with the streamlining of the membership processes and all that is involved - from the preparation of joining or renewal packs to processing of forms and providing support to members. A particularly important part of his role is maintaining the integrity of the database so we can provide the best service we can to members.

Omar enjoys very much being one the first points of contact and finds the interaction with the wide cross section of the CILIP membership very interesting.
