Penny Simmonds has been Head of the Training and Development Department of the Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) since April 2002 and is responsible for designing, directing and implementing the highly regarded programme of workshops, seminars, Executive briefings and onsite training.
Penny worked in a number of further education colleges within the Inner London Education authority including Westminster, Paddington, the College for Distributed Trades and a sixth form centre. In 1989 she took up the post of Professional Officer in the Continuing Education Department of the Library Association where she was instrumental in implementing the Framework for Continuing Professional Development. She became Head of Department in 1995.
In 1999 Penny became Project Director for two NOF (New Opportunities Fund) ICT e-learning programmes for school and public librarians working in partnership with a University and two other organisations.
She is a Chartered Member of CILIP and an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
