Biography

Ayub Khan BA (Hons) FCLIP is Head of Libraries (Strategy) for Warwickshire County Council. His role is to provide professional leadership for the library service in relation to library policy & strategy and is a member of the wider Libraries, Learning and Culture Management team.

He has held a number of posts in public libraries specialising in schools, young people’s and community librarianship. Ayub’s most recent role was that of Principal Project Officer (Library of Birmingham), working on plans to create a new state of the art city centre library. Ayub is a former member of CILIP’s Chartership Board and has served on the joint Chartership/ Accreditation regulations working group for the new framework of Qualifications. Ayub has a strong interest in International Librarianship and is a member of UNESCO’s Culture Committee and has recently been elected to the Library Services for Multi Cultural Population standing committee of IFLA. Ayub has also served on the British Council’s Knowledge and Information advisory board. He currently chairs CILIP’s Equal Opportunities and Diversity panel and is a past President of the Career Development Group.

Ayub was awarded a Centenary Medal from the Library Association in 1998 for services to Librarianship and in 2003 was highly commended in the personal achievement category of the Diversity awards by the Diversity Group. He achieved his Fellowship in 2004.

Ayub is a member of LISU’s Advisory board and is an OGC (Office Government Commerce) peer review assessor for Gateway Reviews for project management in the public sector. He has co-written the section on library buildings for the RIBA’s Metric Handbook and co-authored the trends and policy direction in public libraries during the 1990’s chapter in the British Librarianship and Information Work publication (2006). Ayub also under took the research and forecasting for the influential report - Fulfilling their Potential published by the Reading Agency.
