Biography

Liz has over 30 years’ practical experience in information and knowledge management, working in 5 different government departments, and covering topics as varied as defence, international affairs, aid, trade, economics and veterinary science. Until December 2005 she was the Director of Information Policy and Services for the Department of Trade and Industry, with responsibility for information and knowledge strategy, information rights and the delivery of library, information, translation and records management services. She was also responsible for a number of major projects, including the first successful ERDM system and the first fully “virtual” library in Whitehall. She is now a consultant in information, records and change management, working both independently and in partnership with SAL Associates, and others.

Liz has been a member of both the Library Association and the Institute of Information Scientists for many, many years. She was elected a fellow of the IIS in 1993, and an Honorary Fellow of CILIP in 2007. She has sat on numerous committees, including the Implementation Working Group which negotiated the merger of the IIS and LA to form CILIP, and had a previous stint on CILIP Council from 2002-2005, and chaired Policy Development Committee for a year. She was a member of the Registration (now Chartership) Board for the LA, remains a Scrutineer, and is currently also a member of the Accreditation Board. Elsewhere, Liz had a long association with the Circle of State Librarians (now NGLIS) and was Treasurer for Aslib Information Resource Management Network; she was also a member of the British Library Advisory Board on Science, Technology and Business, the Hawley Committee (KPMG Impact), and the National Forum on Bibliographic Standards.

Liz has published and spoken on a wide range of topics, including information strategy and architecture, electronic records management, project and change management and information audit.
