Biography
Candidate manifesto - max 300 words
The new Council will be composed of Trustees who should hold in trust the interests of all the constituent groups making up the contemporary information profession, not merely representing specific constituencies or interest groups. We need to elect individuals with the breadth of vision to embrace not only new ways of working, but also to think beyond the current boundaries of the profession. Trustees who will develop new partnerships and relationships where these serve the interests of members; to be more flexible not only in our definition of what constitutes the information profession, but also in the skills, knowledge and educational attainments of information professionals. More importantly, Trustees should ensure we have the type of organisation we want and need now and in the future, regardless of what has been done in the past.
Why elect me?
I offer commitment to the idea of a broad-based professional organisation, but one which still has a clear vision of the unique skills and attributes of information professionals.
Employed as an academic at Aberystwyth University since 1990, my 29 year career in the profession demonstrates a commitment to the highest standards of professional excellence, whilst at the same time seeking new ways of opening up access to professional practice. I am committed to flexible and workplace learning, evidence-based practice and CPD for the profession. The unique working partnership of CILIP Cyrmu/Wales with archivists and museum professionals, demonstrated by our annual joint conference, reflects my personal and practical commitment to forging closer working relationships with related professions.
If elected, I promise to listen and to ensure your views are represented on Council, reflecting the widest constituency possible, and would therefore stand down from my current role as Chair of CILIP Cymru/Wales.
