Biography
Candidate manifesto - max 300 words
I welcome the opportunity to stand for election, particularly at this pivotal phase in CILIP’s history. I am currently Head of Libraries (Strategy) in Warwickshire, having started my career as a Saturday assistant in Birmingham. I have worked in school, public and college libraries and feel I have a good overview of the LIS sector, having served on a number of committees and in a variety of roles from committee member on the West Midlands YLG committee to President of the Career Development Group.
CILIP’s greatest asset is its broad membership base, representing every aspect of library and information services. I have been impressed by CILIP’s recent stand on deprofessionalisation and would campaign for more pro-active engagement with key stakeholders on member’s key concerns such as this. I firmly believe that CILIP needs to operate more in a global way as the concerns of our members are the same around the world.
My priorities, if elected, will be to:
• Make advocacy a top priority for the Institute and able to respond quickly to the media
• Ensure Members get value for money from their professional body
• Put equality and diversity at the heart of decision-making
• Listen to Members and raise their concerns at Council
• Work positively and constructively with CILIP staff to achieve positive outcomes for members and our wider community
• Ensure that CILIP’s decision-making and activities are open and transparent for all members to scrutinise and comment
• Encourage the active involvement of the broader membership and champion the need for a strong and healthy Group and Branch structure within CILIP
I believe I have the personal qualities you would wish to see in your Council representative and I promise that, if elected, I will fulfil the role with integrity, passion, and commitment.
