Biography
Candidate manifesto - max 300 words
My experience of many different types of library work, and my life outside libraries, when I worked in marketing for many years, stand me in good stead for contributing to the work of the Council and more importantly the standing of the profession. Starting as a Saturday girl in my local public library, I qualified in the old two year diploma course, and took my degree afterwards. I have worked in academic and workplace libraries and spent most of my career as a market intelligence analyst, both freelance and employed. Currently I am Head of Information Strategy and Development at Business Link London, embedding a knowledge culture into the organisation. It is my firm belief that librarians are eminently qualified for all aspects of information and knowledge work, and that we should be striving to not let others take this from us.
Advocacy for the profession means a lot to me, and I currently champion the advocacy community on CILIP communities. If elected I intend to devote my efforts to fighting for the status of the profession, to keeping public and academic libraries funded adequately and remaining open, and most importantly for decent salary levels and professional status.
In 2004 we won the Information Industry Award for Best Information team in a Business Environment.

I have known Diana since the start of CILIP Communities, when she was one of the band of early champions. Her commitment to the future of the profession has been very evident, and her experience in marketing would bring fresh perspective and ideas to the work of the Council.
The range of debates Diana has contributed to demonstrates her commitment to the breadth of the profession – public librarians as much as commercial information workers, for example.
I believe strongly that her membership of Council would benefit the whole profession and help it lead in the information and librarianship world.
