The BBC plays a pivital role in the UK knowledge economy - CILIP responds to the BBC Charter Review public consultation which is seeking to engage the UK in a dialogue about the future of the BBC.
BBC Charter Review
The Library, information and knowledge community have two especial interests in the BBC:
- Its role as disseminator of knowledge and information and
- The immense riches of content used by library and information services of all types
The importance of the BBC as a cultural institution is immense and must not be underestimated. It touches every aspect of life within the UK attracting just under 97% of the UK population weekly and attracts a global audience of 308 million people. The BBC also supports a thriving secondary economy through commissioning and partnership and helps sustain and promote the UK creative industries.
