Results of the CILIP in London survey, Winter 2006

Many thanks to all those who took part in the CILIP in London Survey. CILIP in London undertook the survey to find out how popular its services were and to find out what areas needed developing. CILIP in London takes the views of its members very seriously.

Of the 4,000 members of the branch, 302 took part in the survey. The results showed, amongst other things, that 86% of members sometimes or regularly read the London CLIP newsletter (‘details of future events’ is the part that people read most) and 28% of people who answered the question had attended at least one CILIP in London event this year. CILIP headquarters in London was the place where people (69%) said they would most like to have events. Current professional awareness, networking and career development were seen as the three most important roles of the branch.

The survey shows that some people were unclear about the identity and current activities of the group (many people did not realise there were CILIP in London web pages, for instance) and there is a lot of potential to improve marketing.

The prize draw of £50 Amazon vouchers was won by Martin Carr of the Royal Society, Sue Willetts of the Joint Library of the Roman and Hellenic Societies, Senate House, and Anna Al-Shabib.

The full results (pdf, 238K) make interesting reading (especially pages 2-4, which contain a neat summary of the findings). Library and Information workers are renowned for their strong opinions, and it is exciting to be able to read so many comments from all sorts of members across London.
