BBOD & TVPIP
BBOD is a member of the Thames Valley Professional Institutes Partnership and its members are eligible to attend any of the events offered by TVPIP. For details visit the TVPIP website.
TVPIP: the Thames Valley Professional Institutes Partnership
In August 2003 BBOB, as it was then, became the 14th professional association to join TVPIP, an umbrella body for 'the professions for business'. The other members represent a diverse range of professional organisations including the Chartered Institute for Personnel and Development, the Chartered Management Institute, the Association for Project Management and the British Computer Society.
TVPIP was set up to provide:
support for Continuing Professional Development;
recognition of the contribution that professional institutes make to the region’s economy;
networking opportunities for personal and other contact between members of any participating institute;
communication networks between institutes to foster mutual understanding;
a point of contact between professional institutes and regional governmental and administrative organisations
BBOD joined TVPIP with two main aims: to raise the profile of our members and to make available a wider selection of meetings to members of CILIP – as you know there is an increasing emphasis on CPD. Member institutes make their meetings open to others and institutes are increasingly working together on joint meetings. As well as sharing costs, combined events give greater scope for networking. TVPIP is working with Oxford Brookes University on a survey of CPD opportunities in the Thames Valley, and Ruth was interviewed to give the CILIP/BBOD viewpoint.
The TVPIP website
www.tvpip.org
lists forthcoming events of the individual institutes with links to the appropriate website for further information. Most are free or for nominal cost. Contact the organiser to book a place and go along. Please let us know when you find these events valuable.
TVPIP is currently exploring its place in careers advice as a means of promoting professions – perhaps through working with schools and colleges to promote professionalism in business – and/or as an umbrella organisation with a stand at careers fairs or through other careers organisations as Connexions (provides careers advice for much of Berkshire
www.connexions.gov.uk
) and Aimhigher (the government website encouraging participation in higher education
www.aimhigher.ac.uk/en/home/index.cfm
).
In short, BBOD sees membership of TVPIP as a worthwhile way to promote the interests of its members as individuals and their profile among other professionals.
