Here we explain how we are engaging with the Government's knowledge and information management strategy, 'Information Matters'
Information Matters is an initiative seeking to embed good knowledge and information management practice across all government departments.
CILIP's work
A small group has been formed to support CILIP's work on Information Matters. It is chaired by Peter Griffiths and includes CILIP trustees, members of the Government Libraries and Information Group and other CILIP members with an interest in information management in government.
As the Government hopes that this strategy will influence practice elsewhere in the public sector and beyond, the group intends to be active in more general developments to do with effective information management in the public sector.
CILIP has met with Cat Massey and more recently with Liane Kordan from the National Archives. We are working on this within a collective of other professional bodies, including the British Computer Society, Records Management Association and the Society of Archivists.
For CILIP it provides the opportunity to:
- Work in partnership with related professional bodies
- Focus on the importance of information management
- Build bespoke training and development programmes to meet the needs of specific employers and settings
- work on connecting employer-led competency frameworks with national processes of accreditation

'Information Matters: building capability in knowledge and information management' is the Government's Knowledge and Information Management Strategy document. The report makes clear the importance of high quality information and knowledge management in government.
Learn more about Information Matters on the Government Knowledge and Information Management Network website. You can also download a PDF of the strategy on their website.
The cross-government Knowledge Council drives the strategy forward to help develop the framework, tools and capabilities for knowledge and information management.
