5– 10 minutes?
Contact all your friends and family, ask them to join their library. Search and reserve books through this guide to library services in England.
10 – 15 minutes?
Email or write to your local MP, local press or Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport about the unique contribution public libraries make to society.
15 – 30 minutes?
Pop down your local library. Borrow as many books as you can. While you are there read a newspaper, go online and find out what’s happening in your local community.
As a member of CILIP why don't you:
- Get involved in advocacy activities with one of CILIP's groups or branches
- CILIP is making the case for libraries. Make an audio recording of your messages through a dedicated talkgroup on Voxopop.
- Give us your views and experiences by commenting on public library-related postings on our blogs and forums in Communities
- Respond to calls for information and involvement in advocacy activities from us or from your branch or group
- Tweet your support #savelibraries #cilip
Using the Campaigning toolkit, develop a strategy to ensure that the contribution you make as a library and information professional is understood by your organisation, your community and society. Then add your experiences to our Campaigning successes web pages

- Use and support your local libraries
- Email or write to your local MP, local press and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport if you feel that your local library service is not up to standard and copy your letter to CILIP

Write to them: You can find out your MP by putting in your postcode and then fill out and send an email directly to them
