Other services for LGBT library users and people interested in LGBT history, including reading groups, reading lists and information about archival collections.
Reading Groups
Several libraries have either set up reading groups for LGBT people, or offer space for these groups to meet.
In 2007 Joanne Harvey, Service Development Manager for Reader Development at Brighton and Hove libraries won the CILIP Diversity Group's Personal Achievement Award. Joanne set up, co-ordinated and developed nine reading groups within the library, including one for the lesbian, gay and transgendered community, which has proved very popular. Information about this group can be found on the Brighton and Hove Libraries website.
Reading Lists
LGBT reading lists are available from some public libraries, including Devon (divided into fiction and non-fiction), and Hertfordshire (this is also a useful leaflet listing sources of further information and support).
Elizabeth Chapman and Briony Birdi have produced a reading list of LGBT related fiction for children and young people. Please email info@cilip.org.uk for a copy.
Archival information
Manchester City Council has produced a guide to material held at Manchester Archives and elsewhere relating to the history of Manchester's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community.
Out There is a partnership project between The London Metropolitan Archives and The National Archives. The portal is aimed at helping researchers identify archive resources for the study of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) history.
Gay History Month
Lesbian Gay Bisexual Trans History Month takes place every year in February, and is aimed at raising awareness and reducing prejudice. Many libraries support this.
