Interim Policy Forum

The IPF met three times in 2010 and did not meet in 2011. It was suspended at the end of 2010 by CILIP Council as part of its economy measures. We are awaiting the outcome of CILIP's governance review (which has been delayed because of recent restructuring at CILIP) for a formal decision on its future. However, policy and advocacy work at CILIP is ongoing.

What the Interim Policy Forum does

The Interim Policy Forum is the main way that professional policy issues are developed and debated within CILIP. Its main responsibilities are:

  • Advising Council and the Office of the President on policy priority areas
and developing an annual advocacy Framework for consideration by Council
  • Initiating and commissioning policy development activity
  • Coordinating policy development activity across CILIP
  • Evaluating effectiveness of CILIP policy and advocacy activity

It puts forward recommendations for CILIP Council to endorse. It is Council's role to translate these into actions in the strategic plan. The group is supported by the Policy & Advocacy Unit in its work.

The Interim Policy Forum will meet until such time as the current review of Governance puts forward a more enduring set of proposals.

Task and Finish Groups

The Interim Policy Forum sets up small 'task and finish' groups to take forward specific areas of work. Once the group's work is completed, the group can be disbanded.

Current groups include:

Use of volunteers
Information Literacy

Subsidiary bodies
