Our activities
To achieve our objectives the Branch has various options for action ranging from the reactive to the proactive:
- Sponsor events/publications, provide bursaries, offer financial support to others (eg Groups or individuals) for activities in Branch area of benefit to Branch.
- Act as local focus for CILIP publicity, holding stocks of leaflets, marketing materials, etc.
- Act as local spokesman for CILIP on policy, strategy, etc.
- Disseminate views/decisions/policies of CILIP to members.
- Consider professional questions/problems arising locally, referring upwards to CILIP as appropriate.
- Survey/monitor members' needs/problems/views locally.
- Monitor/advise on professional matters in the area.
- Scrutinise/comment on relevant new legislation.
- Promote study/research on library matters.
- Promote European links.
- Overview professional activity in the area (ie. Groups/Sections) to avoid overlapping and duplication.
- Promote librarianship and CILIP in the area, evangelise, encourage action by Groups and Sections.
- Seek to identify gaps in professional awareness, professional development, knowledge, skills and training amongst members in the area.
- Organise/sponsor ways of filling these gaps.
- Provide a platform for discussion, airing of views etc through bulletins, newsletters, meetings.
- Provide opportunities for members to meet socially.
- Negotiate, lobby, fight for members' rights and CILIP locally.
- Initiate/encourage local debate on key professional topics.
- Issue statements, offer interviews on above topics for local media, meetings etc.
