Sponsorship guidelines for personal applications

The South-Western Branch of CILIP invites applications from Branch members for sponsorship of activities. This includes attendance at single or multi-day events which benefit the individual and relate to the library and information profession. The Branch is unable to sponsor or contribute towards individual courses of study and related expenses.

The Branch Committee will decide annually the level of budget if any, to be devoted to sponsorship and the terms and conditions that will apply for applications and awards. The Committee may decide to use all, part or none of any budget earmarked for sponsorship in any particular year or at any particular time. Decisions of the Committee will be final.

The Events Sub-Committee considers applications, referring to the Branch Treasurer and/or full Branch Committee when required. In considering applications the Sub-Committee will have regard to:

  • The status of the applicant including age and/or employment status. The Sub-Committee may give preference to requests from young, newly qualified, unemployed, low-paid or otherwise in the Sub-Committee's view disadvantaged members of the Association.
  • Alternative Sources of Sponsorship: The Sub-Committee will have regard to the likelihood of the applicant being able, in their view, to obtain alternative sources of funding.
  • Nature of the Activity: The Sub-Committee will have regard to the nature and subject of the activity for which sponsorship is sought. Preference may be given to events or activities which further the stated aims and policies of the Branch as may be set out by the Committee from time to time.

In every case where personal sponsorship is awarded either in whole or in part the Branch will require a written report, newsletter article or other such item from the applicant at the conclusion of the activity sponsored. This should describe the applicant's achievements as a result of the activity, with particular reference to personal and professional benefits achieved from the Branch's sponsorship, and any benefits which the Branch itself may expect to obtain as a result of having sponsored the applicant. In addition, the Branch will require an acknowledgement of its sponsorship in any report, account, article etc. subsequently published by the applicant relating to the event or activity.

IMPORTANT

Applications will normally be considered by the Branch four times a year – January, April, July and October. Applicants are asked to send in requests as early as possible to allow enough time for the Branch to consider them properly. Applications must be received before the event or activity for which sponsorship is requested takes place.
