Introduction

The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP) Wales came into being on 1 April 2002, and is a Branch of the UK Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals. CILIP was formed following the unification of the Library Association and the Institute of Information Scientists and replaces the Welsh Library Association in Wales.

Cyflwyniad

Daeth Y Sefydliad Siartredig Llyfrgellwyr a Gweithwyr Gwybodaeth (CILIP) Cymru i fodolaeth ar 1 Ebrill 2002, ac mae'n gangen o Sefydliad Siartredig Llyfrgellwyr a Gwybodaeth (Prydain). Ffurfiwyd CILIP yn dilyn uno Cymdeithas y Llyfrgellwyr a'r Sefydliad Gwyddonwyr Gwybodaeth. Mae CILIP Cymru yn disodli Cymdeithas Llyfrgelloedd Cymru.

Mission Statement

CILIP Cymru / Wales asserts that high quality library and information provision is a fundamental requirement for an informed, democratic, and bilingual society in Wales and through its members it seeks to make such provision available to all.

Mae CILIP Cymru yn mynnu bod darpariaeth o safon uchel ym maes llyfrgelloedd a gwybodaeth yn angen sylfaenol ar gyfer cymdeithas wybodus, ddemocrataidd a dwyieithog yng Nghymru, a thrwy ei aelodau mae CILIP yn anelu i sicrhau y bydd y ddarpariaeth hon ar gael i bawb.

Statement of Purpose

CILIP Cymru / Wales for the benefit of individual members and using both the Welsh and English languages:-

• promotes the professional development of individual members
• provides and disseminates information to members
• represents the views of members

CILIP Cymru / Wales for the benefit of the library and information community:-

• unites all persons engaged in or interested in the library and information field
• co-operates with other agencies to promote the development of library and information provision nationally in Wales, the UK and internationally
• supports the interests of members working in specific areas
  

CILIP Cymru/ Wales for the benefit of society:-

• advocates the vital role of high quality library and information provision
• seeks to influence the development of policies on the provision of information and library provision at a local and national level
• supports the development and promotion of guidelines for the provision of services
• advises on the development of library and information provision
• publishes information in a wide variety of formats, including e-publishing

• yn cynghori ar ddatblygu darpariaeth ym maes llyfrgelloedd a gwybodaeth
