International relations
The Branch has had to suspend international activities for the time being until we can find someone to pick this up. Sorry.
In the past the Branch had a policy of developing links with library and information services in other countries to share good practice and learn from each other.
As a first step we chose one European country that was not too far away so that visits would not be too expensive ! Also we were looking for one that has a regional library network similar to that of the UK.
With this in mind we began to create links with the Netherlands, which gives the additional possibility of creating links with Indonesia. We tried to find an area of the Netherlands that had some of the characteristics of Yorkshire and Humberside. These we identified as Urban areas, Maritime areas, Academic institutions, Industry and Countryside. There were several areas that were close, but the best fit was Groningen province, in the north west of the country, the main town being Groningen.
Regretfully there have been no further developments for two or three years now.
