CILIP
Yorkshire and Humberside Branch
Branch Annual Report 2006—2007
Whilst we were very conscious of the complex issues facing the organisation as a whole CILIP Yorkshire and Humberside Branch Committee embarked on the year 06/07 in a pretty much ‘business as usual’ frame of mind. I am happy to report we have a full Committee and better still, some new members. Alison Harling has joined us as Editor of Yorkshire Library News and Andrew Jones, from the National Science Learning Centre at York as a Committee Member. In fact, in April, we suffered an ‘embarrassment of riches’ by way of receiving more offers from would-be Student Representatives than were actually required. We were pleased to welcome them all. A member of the Career Development Group attended on every occasion, continuing a long and mutually beneficial relationship.
We held five meetings during the year, varying the venue between Leeds, Sheffield and Huddersfield, as has become customary in a bid to raise CILIP’s profile across the county. On three occasions, members of the Professional Qualifications Working Party attended, keeping us updated on the progress of Framework for Qualifications. Having taken the decision at the beginning of the year to commit the ’lion’s share’ of capitation to Framework for Qualifications, we supported several training events held in the area, notably Chartership and Mentoring workshops. 2006/07 also saw the final demise of the Research and Development Fund, money unique to our region, which over a thirty-year period had supported a great many individuals with their professional training and development.
After the extraordinary meeting of Council in October it became clear we had to review our plans and focus in the issue of sustainability for the future. With the help of our Treasurer, Andrew Walsh, we are in the process of developing business and marketing plans that we hope eventually to share with the membership through Yorkshire Library News.
Finally, I would like to offer my thanks to members of the Committee for the work they have done over the year and the contribution they make to furthering the aims of the profession.
Sue Cook, Honorary Branch Secretary
