Special interest groups

CILIP has 27 special interest groups plus two membership category groupings. Just as CILIP Membership is a gateway to a professional library and information network, Group Membership provides the opportunity to share news and views relating to more specific areas of the information world.

Every member of CILIP benefits from free membership of two Groups as part of their membership, and are welcome to join additional groups for an additional £10 charge. New members can select groups by completing the appropriate section on the CILIP application form.

Existing members can join different or additional groups either on the annual membership renewal form or at any time by writing to the Membership Department. Group members automatically receive the newsletters and/or journals, as well as information on other publications and Group events.

The following list of groups gives an overview that will help you select the most appropriate or relevant for you at the moment.  If your areas of interest change then group membership is flexible and can change with you – at any time. Some Groups welcome Non-Members of CILIP (as affiliates) at a fee decided by the Group’s committee. Enquiries should be made directly to the individual group Honorary Secretaries.

Contacting groups directly
