How can I join the committee?

You may be surprised to know that you do not need any special qualifications to join the National Committee for Affiliated members.
The committee represents the Affiliate membership at CILIP council meetings, and puts forward ideas and suggestions for improving membership benefits and recruitment of new members. It supports events which promote training and personal development for library assistants throughout the country, and even organises its own day courses, usually at the Annual General Meeting or at the Umbrella conference. Committee members are asked to attend 3 meetings a year, generally at CILIP HQ in London. Basic transport costs are paid by the committee and there is also a working lunch provided. You will be asked to bring your enthusiasm and willingness to help promote and innovate new ideas to the benefit of all affiliate members.

By getting involved as committee member of the Affiliates you can help your career development

As you climb the career ladder it is likely you will become involved in committee work in your day to day job.  You may be saying to yourself how can I help my career develop when the jobs market is pretty stagnant at the moment Maybe you can see yourself in the future chairing a meeting, but at the moment you are not sure how you would go about doing that.  Have you thought about broadening your outlook and getting involved as a secretary of one of your groups or local branch?  By improving your organisation skills and knowledge of agendas and minutes you can learn more about how all roles work on a committee and help bring about a cohesive team.  You would be able to network with others who are further along the career road who can offer advice.  You will also be involved in helping to make decisions about the Affiliate's future.

So how can you apply?

Take a look at our website and chat with other members of the committee to find out what is involved.
