Equal opportunities
The Career Development Group has long recognised the importance of equal opportunities. The decision was taken to delete the discrete Equal Opportunities Officer post in favour of mainstreaming responsibility for equal opportunities into all officer posts.

CILIP Equal Opportunities & Diversity Panel
Career Development Group is one of the few special interest groups which is directly represented on CILIP's Equal Opportunities & Diversity Panel, which meets twice a year.
The Panel is currently working on research into positive action schemes and preparations for an Equal Opportunities and Diversity Audit of CILIP.
The Panel is currently working on the following five key areas:
- Developing a Diversify Toolkit
- Focus on sexuality issues
- Equal Opportunities & Diversity Audit
- Support for the Encompass positive action scheme to encourage more BME library and information professionals
- Promoting the IFLA manifesto in the UK

CILIP Equal Opportunities & Diversity Statement
- Equal opportunities is relevant to all LIS professionals
- We share the vision set out in the CILIP Equal Opportunities & Diversity Statement, of 'an informed society in which everyone has ready access to the knowledge, information and works of imagination appropriate to their needs, wants and aspirations'
- We will respect and affirm diversity of all kinds and will challenge and confront discrimination and prejudice
We support the work of the Diversity Group and regularly collaborate with them to provide stimulating and relevant sessions at the Umbrella conference and organised a highly successful New Professionals Conference in July 2009.
