How do I join the Career Development Group?

What is the Career Development Group?
The Career Development Group (CDG) is a Special Interest Group of CILIP, the Chartered Institute for Library and Information Professionals. Our membership includes professionals from across a wide range of information work, in all sectors.
The CDG is involved in a wide variety of activities including:
- courses
- fundraising to support international projects
- production of a journal, Impact
- supporting CILIP’s Framework of Qualifications

Who is my local Candidate Support Officer (CSO)?
- Each division has its own CSO
- If you are not sure which division, contact Karen Poole, the Honorary Learning Co-ordinator
How can the CSO help me with my Chartership?
The CSOs are there to help candidates providing:
- information
- advice
- guidance
- free courses locally

When is the next Certification/Chartership/Revalidation course/meeting?
- Courses and events are held regularly throughout the UK and appear on the CDG calendar
- Many informal groups meet semi-regularly with details posted on the mailing lists
How can I see examples of past submissions?

Can you provide me with a mentor?
- The CILIP website has lists of available mentors
- Your local CSO can put you in touch with other professionals who have offered to act as mentors

- Impact is the journal of the Career Development Group
- It is published four times a year. Impact is now available online

Which international projects does the Career Development Group support?
- We support a range of international projects and activities
- For several years we have supported a VSO librarian and several book projects and run study tours

How do I join the Career Development Group?
Join CILIP
- You need to be a CILIP member
- As a CILIP member, you can choose the Career Development Group as one of your 2 Special Interest Groups (SIGs)
Already a CILIP member?
- Change one of your existing groups to the Career Development Group online
- Add the Career Development Group as an extra SIG, although CILIP will charge a nominal fee
- On your CILIP membership renewal form, choose the Career Development Group by choosing A in the SIG box.
