After 22 years working in a range of libraries & information units, all commercial, and specialising latterly in legal information, I left the capital in 2003 to set up Legal-IM: an independent information management practice based in the South West. Although the focus is law, consultants are – because they still need to eat, dress, get haircuts etc. – open to all legitimate information propositions put to them, and I have had some extremely interesting contracts doing quite unlikely things.

Outside work-type work, I've served on IIS Council (3 times) and on UKOLUG's Management Committee, chaired EUROLUG for four years, edited two newsletters, and am currently on BIALL's Membership Services Committee, as well as chairing ICLG (of which I've been a member for at least fifteen years). It's an exciting time to be working with ICLG as we rebrand ourselves, relaunch our newsletter and take on a number of new initiatives – and I have a marvellous team in the ICLG committee. Not only do they back me enthusiastically nearly all the time, but equally they can be relied on to curb my wilder excesses when I look like going completely off the rails with new ideas. Exactly what every Chair needs!
