As the newest of the CILIP special interest groups, we hope you will join the Group and help to promote and celebrate diversity within the library and information profession.
Join the Diversity Group - Trying to make a difference
If you are a CILIP member engaged in or interested in issues of diversity as they affect the library and information community, then join the Diversity Group. "Diversity" covers race, religion, culture, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality, age, disability - and other factors that result in discrimination and inequality.
The Diversity Group can give you the opportunity to make contact with other professionals in this area. We facilitate exchange of experience and promotion of relevant work to promote and support library and information services to diversity and excluded communities.
The Diversity Group also produces 2 to 3 newsletters a year, and we organise the Diversity Awards which are awarded every two years. We run workshops in Umbrella, the CILIP conference, and have a conference every two years. This year’s Diversity Group conference has the themes of race and class and will be on Monday 14th June 2010 at CILIP, London.

Diversity Group Committee

Diversity Group AGM
The Diversity Group AGM was held at Umbrella 2009, University of Hertfordshire, De Havilland Campus, Hatfield on Wednesday 15 July. More details are available on our News and events page. You can download the Annual Report for 2008 in the Committee section.

Diversity Group events
The Diversity Group took part in two major library conferences this year. You can download a selection of the speeches and presentations for both conferences on our Conferences page.
- Umbrella - 14-15 July 2009, University of Hertfordshire, Hatfield.
The Diversity Group participated in 5 workshops in this year's Umbrella - Making Connections: The power of people, partnerships and services. We also held our AGM at Umbrella.
- New Professionals Conference 6 July 2009, London Metropolitan University. The New Professionals Conference was organised by the Career Development Group and the Diversity Group. 93 people attended the conference. To download the presentations go to our Conferences page. Diversity Newsletter
You can get the latest edition of the Diversity Newsletter in our Newsletter section. The Summer 2009 edition has information about the winner of the first Frances Lincoln Diverse Voices Children’s Book Award - Takeshita Demons by Cristy Burne, and notice of our AGM.
