All Change?: responding to the new public sector environment

    Write-up of the workshop

GLIG, NGLIS and CDL will be running a free afternoon workshop on 14th September from 3-5pm  to look at how knowledge and information professionals are responding to the twin challenges the public sector faces of less money whilst delivering our services to meet the new approach of the Coalition Government, including the Big Society. The session will focus on:

    • The changes themselves (what is the big society and what does it mean?, is transparency a big opportunity?)

    • How do we work with the changes and what does that mean for the services and roles we have

    • How can we support members through this change and what should we be feeding back to CILIP and other bodies

    • What do we need to do as individuals to prepare ourselves for what lies ahead.

This is an informal event which will help all three groups put together a programme of events for the coming year, including a joint conference. We want to know what our members want and focus on your ideas of how we can work together to be effective as a professional group.

If you are interested please email Sue Westcott. Sue.Westcott@communities.gsi.gov.uk. The event will be held at CILIP, 7 Ridgmount Street London.

  • GLIG Question Time Podcast

As part of the recent highly successful GLIG AGM we featured a Question Time style panel discussion. In the chair for this was David Smith (GLIG Vice Chair) and an illustrious panel:

  • Sue Westcott (Head of ICT Services, Communities and Local Government)
  • Ben Chan (Information Services Group, Ministry of Defence)
  • Carol Gokce (Chief Librarian, Communities and Local Government/Department for Transport)
  • Patrick Ryan (Library Advisor Land Registry).

Further innovation this year has been the inclusion of a podcast of the discussion.
