  • Cyril Barnard Memorial Prize
    Established in 1962, this prize is awarded every three years in recognition of outstanding services to medical librarianship.  Andrew Booth was awarded the Prize for 2011 by Pauline Blagden, HLG Chair, at the Umbrella Conference.

  • Bishop and LeFanu Memorial Lecture
    Established in 1968, the lecture was given annually until 2001.  Since then it has been given every two years at the Health Libraries Group Conference.  The most recent lecture was in 2010 Lecture which was given at the HLG Conference on Tuesday 20th July by Dr Sanjay Agrawal, Consultant Respiratory Intensivist, University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust on The ups and downs of disaster planning

  • Research in the Workplace Award
    The 2012 Aawrd has no be made.  It has gone to to Chris Cooper and colleagues (Peninsula Medical School) and will evaluate the state and usage of British bibliographic databases relevant to health and social care fields.
    The Research in the Workplace Award (RIWA) is co-sponsored by the HLG and the University Health and Medical Librarians Group (UHMLG). It is a biennial grant that seeks to fund UK based small 
    library and information professional-led workplace research projects.  It aims to contribute to a research culture within the library and information community, and assist in developing our evidence base. 
    Projects can relate to any aspect of service provision, development or theory and should be achievable within a twelve month period.  The award can be used to fund equipment, consumables, buy-out time, purchase technical support etc.

Grants and Financial Assistance (conference/training course attendance) 

  • Help to attend an HLG study day or workshop
    One free place plus a travel grant to assist with fares up to £75 is available on every HLG study day or workshop for unemployed HLG members. Please see the specific event advertisement for details of how to apply.

  • HLG members grants for the biennial HLG Conference
    Ten grants are being offered to support HLG members to attend the HLG  Conference which is to be held in Glasgow on 12th and 13th July 2012.  Only CILIP Health Libraries Group members are eligible to apply for funding.  Applications will be particularly welcomed from members who have never attended an HLG Conference before.

  • Student grants for the biennial HLG Conference
    HLG is offering four grants for students to attend its next conference.  All students currently studying on a CILIP-accredited course for a first degree of postgraduate qualification in library/information science in England, Wales or Scotland are eligible to apply.

  • International grant for a health librarian to attend the biennial HLG Conference
    HLG is awarding a grant of a maximum of £1,500 to support a health librarian working in a HINARI-eligible country to attend the HLG Conference, which is to be held in Glasgow, on 12th and 13th July 2012, and to benefit from a unique learning experience in the UK. 

     The funding can be used to contribute towards the cost of the  
    
conference fee, accommodation, travel, visa and living expenses.  

    
The learning experience will comprise of opportunities such as
     shadowing and participating in professional development
     visits facilitated
by Partnerships in Health Information (Phi) and the
     International Libraries and Information Group (ILIG).

  • Leslie Morton Bursary
    The Leslie Morton Bursary was established to encourage attendance at international conferences in health librarianship, medical bibliography or medical history.  Up to £1,000 is available annually.  Applications are invited in January (or again in March, if the bursary has not been awarded that year).
