HLG is currently working in partnership with Tomlinsons to update the series of Core Collections.
Primary Care Core Collection - Invitation to contribute
The editorial team of the HLG Primary Care Core Collection revision would like to invite you to contribute to the new 3rd edition which will be published in 2012 by Tomlinson's Book Suppliers.
Click here for instructions on how to do this. Please remember to include your name so that we can acknowledge your contribution.
Once again we will be using LibraryThing as the web based bibliographic tool, as it is relatively straightforward to use and allows for ongoing recommendations to be posted and stored.
Recommendations will be accepted until the 15th January 2012. The aim is to launch this at the next HLG Conference.
Please also note that if you are aware of any primary care educators who would be interested in contributing then please forward this information on to them.

Background
During 2009, HLG has re-established its involvement and leadership of the Core Collections in partnership with Tomlinsons. The Core
Collections publication, first published 17 years ago, has become a useful acquisition guide for health libraries. The compilation of the collections had however become a very time consuming process, and some of the collections had not been updated for many years.
The HLG committee set up a new working group to examine new methods for revising the collections. The Medical and Nursing collections had previously been developed separately, but a generic methodology and scope have now been developed and agreed to ensure consistency across the collections. One of the aims was also to ensure that a wider group was consulted in their compilation and that the final product was available electronically as well as in print. The group therefore investigated a range of Web 2.0 technologies and concluded that Library Thing was the most suitable tool for this purpose. An initial pilot was conducted with the mental health core collection which had not been updated since its first edition in 1999, and which HLG had not previously been involved in. The data from the last collection was loaded onto Library Thing, and a consultation process took place over several months. The group were able to establish that Library Thing provided a good platform for wider user engagement, and facilitated discussion between contributors about the relevance of individual texts.
