 Statistics Demystified – all you need to know about ons.gov.uk - afternoon training course: find out everything you need to know for researching UK official statistics

When: Friday 15th June 2012, 2pm– 5pm

Course: This is a practical workshop with limited places.
Cost: £20.00 payable on the day. (If you can bring your own wifi enabled laptop, £15.00 payable on the day.) Tea/coffee included.
Explore in depth www.ons.gov.uk, the extensive free website from the Office for National Statistics. Learn how you can view and download online statistical data and customize the data specific to your needs. There will also be an opportunity to look at www.statistics.gov.uk, the gateway to sources for UK national statistics. The course is suitable for all levels of experience and information sectors. If you need more confidence with tracking down and viewing statistical information online, then this is the course for you!
Please note it will be a hands on session so places are limited. Book early to avoid disappointment.

"A Really Useful Half Day: getting the best out of government websites"
When: Tuesday 4th December 2012 9.00 a.m. - 12.30 p.m. and 1.30 p.m. - 5.00 p.m.

Course: This is a practical workshop with limited places.
Cost:
This event is being held to enable librarians and information providers to learn more about GOV.UK so they can use it more effectively to answer library users' queries, help library users complete tasks (e.g. apply for a driving licence) and help users navigate around GOV.UK
Please note it will be a hands on session so places are limited.  Book early to acoid disappointment.
This event is held by the Information Services Group (London and South East Section) and Directgov (Department for Communities and Local Government).

Visits

 

Visit to the Kenneth Ritchie Library at the All England Lawn Tennis Club - 6th June 2012 starting at 2.30 p.m.

The Kenneth Ritchie Wimbledon Library is part of the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum, and contains an outstanding collection of British and foreign lawn tennis books, annuals, periodicals, programmes, newspaper cuttings, dvds, etc.

A maximum of 20 people can attend this visit, so it will be a case of first come, first served basis.

The Library tour will be free of charge, but if anyone wants to look around the adjacent Lawn Tennis Museum, there will be a charge of £11.00 for adults and £9.50 for concessions.  The Museum is open from 10.00 a.m. - 4.30 p.m. - please note that it is not practical to go around the museum after the library visit.  The main cafe is likely to be closed in preparation for the Championships, but light snacks will be available.
