Awards
International Award for making a difference in libraries and information services outside the United Kingdom
Anthony Thompson Award
In 2005 the International Library and Information Group of CILIP established an annual prize - the ILIG International Award - to be awarded to a person, group or committee, which has made a real difference to a community through their work in library and information services in countries outside the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
Anthony Thompson was the first full-time IFLA Secretary General, from 1962 to 1970, and following his death a trust fund was set up for the study of international and comparative librarianship. Calls are made for applications for the Award periodically - approximately every 2-3 years. ILIG manages this Award for CILIP. The Award enables a qualified librarian from outside the United Kingdom (UK) to visit and study some aspects of UK library and information work over a period of about 3 weeks.

In addition there are other awards - or grants - offered by CILIP which are of special interest to ILIG members because of their international aspects:
- the CILIP First-timer and Partial grants to attend the annual World Library & Information Congress organised by IFLA, the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions. For 2010 the venue has switched from Brisbane, Australia to Gothenburg, Sweden. In 2011 the venue is San Juan, Puerto Rico and in 2012 it is Helsinki, Finland.
- the annual ESU/CILIP Travelling Librarian Award for a study tour to the United States of America.
