E-Books and Digital Media

This one day course on reading in the 21st century will deal with E-books and Digital Media.
There will be seminars dealing with the decisions, problems and advantages associated with E-book provision.
Delegates will be shown the benefits of making the school library the centre for the development of digital media throughout the school.
Learning outcomes
Attendees will be better able to:
• develop the use of e-books and other e-resources
• inspire interest in reading and to support teaching with the new media
• look at the advantages and challenges that the technology presents
• be able to start forward planning for their schools
Trainers
Baldev Singh, Imagine Educational, will be discussing how to use technology to improve learning outcomes in schools
Lesley Harrison, Librarian, Bedford School - will discuss:
•The role of the librarian as a manager of information and resources in the whole school.
•Working with Heads of Departments to establish the library as a central resource
•Exploring the links between the library and the school VLE
•Providing e-books, dissemination, downloading, licences, problems with publishers
•Using a Kindle, the advantages and disadvantages, book readers and mobile technology
Anne Kail, Credo Reference & Joyce Martin, JCS, will discuss the application and educational value of their resources
Ted Barrow, Learning Resource Centre Manager Hornsey School for Girls,will lead a discussion on the advantages and disadvantages of digitisation and the new opportunities for writers, publishers and those in education.
