Tour of Belfast - Fully
Booked
This
event is kindly being sponsored by IS Oxford
We have 100 tickets for
tours on the evening of Monday 6 September. We will have five guides
each taking approximately 20 people to six different pubs. Usually
the tours stop for a drink in three of the pubs. Everyone has one
complimentary glass of Baileys. On the way round the guide will
tell the history of the pubs, history of Belfast and point out interesting
buildings on the way.
The 100 tickets will be issued on
a first come first served basis. If you would like to join a tour
tick the box on the registration form and return it as soon as possible
to avoid disappointment.
Musical Entertainment
Following the Pub Tour
on Monday evening, 6 September, additional entertainment (free of
charge) will be provided courtesy of Bruce Madge and T Scott Plutchak
our distinguished keynote speaker from the University of Alabama.
Both are talented musicians (guitarists/singers) who have a wide
repertoire and may even take requests! They will be appearing
in the Edinburgh Suite of the Europa Hotel from 9pm on the Monday
evening. All delegates are welcome.
Gala Conference
Dinner
The Dinner will take place
in the City Hall on Tuesday 7 September, with a pre-dinner reception
hosted by Belfast City Council.
The City Hall stands in the centre of Donegall Square in the heart
of downtown Belfast, dominating the City’s principal shopping
area and adding a distinctive outline to the Belfast skyline.
Following a Public Architectural
Competition the design of Mr (afterwards Sir) Brumwell Thomas was
selected. Work started in 1898 and the building was completed in
1906. It was built in the Classical Renaissance style in Portland
stone and is rectangular in shape, enclosing a quadrangular courtyard.
The crowning feature of
the City Hall is the great dome, covered with copper and terminating
with a stone lantern. The dome is 173 feet high and is easily recognisable
throughout the City.
After Dinner Speaker
Dr J A Muir Gray, Project
Director, National Electronic Library for Health
Live Music
Directly after the Dinner
the Brier Folk & Ballad Group will play. Brier is a very popular
three-piece folk group from Co Down. The boys feature a lively mix
of ballads, instrumentals, stories, rock and roll, country music
and craic – something for everyone. It is sure to be a lively
end to the evening.
