Biography

Anne Parkhill
is a freelance health librarian who has worked in the health and
web development industries as an information professional.
Her most recent work is at the Centre for Clinical Effectiveness
(Monash Institute of Health Services Research).
Anne's formal
qualifications cover both the fields of librarianship and business.
She has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Melbourne
with Psychology and Philosophy majors and a Graduate Diploma
of Librarianship from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology
. She has a Graduate Diploma in Business Administration
from Swinburne University of Technology and is an accredited
Workplace Assessor and Trainer.
She has

Abstract
- Train quickly, educate patiently: assisting users to aquire information
gathering skills
The Monash Institute of
Health Services Research (Melbourne, Australia)
aims to enhance patient outcomes through the clinical application
of the
best available evidence. Amongst other things, it undertakes teaching
and
research activities, and answers requests for evidence from the
staff of the
Southern Health hospitals. Within the Institute there is a need
for the
complete gamut of information specialist skills from hands-on searching
across a range of information sources, to training staff and users
to hone
their own skills of information management.
Methods
Currently the author
is involved with other Institute staff in
1. Short courses about Evidence Based Practice of 2-3 days,
2. Searching for the
Evidence&; sessions with clinician journal clubs in the hospital,
3. One-on-one information sessions with Institute staff
This interactive working session will
4. review the range and success of strategies used to train MIHSR
staff and users in information management skills,
5. gather input and experience from workshop members,
6. form strategies from the learnings and conclusions drawn in the
session.
Results
A short paper reviewing the workshop will be compiled which can
be used by
participants to inform future information training sessions.
