The Monash Institute of Health Services Research (Melbourne, Australia)
aims to enhance patient outcomes through the clinical application of the
best available evidence. Amongst other things, it undertakes teaching and
research activities, and answers requests for evidence from the staff of the
Southern Health hospitals. Within the Institute there is a need for the
complete gamut of information specialist skills from hands-on searching
across a range of information sources, to training staff and users to hone
their own skills of information management.

Currently the author is involved with other Institute staff in

1. Short courses about Evidence Based Practice of 2-3 days,

2. Searching for the Evidence&; sessions with clinician journal clubs in the hospital,

3. One-on-one information sessions with Institute staff

This interactive working session will

4. review the range and success of strategies used to train MIHSR staff and users in information management skills,

5. gather input and experience from workshop members,

6. form strategies from the learnings and conclusions drawn in the session.

Results

A short paper reviewing the workshop will be compiled which can be used by
participants to inform future information training sessions.
