Abstract - Future
proofing the profession: recommendations from CILIP Health Executive
Advisory Group and implications for HLG
In 2003, CILIP
identified the need for an Executive Advisory Group on the important
theme of health. The aim of the HEAG was to:
Identify
and explore the key agendas and challenges that Library and Information
Services (LIS) faces within healthcare; to consider the relevance
of the developments within LIS healthcare to the LIS profession
more generally; and to advise CILIP on its role and activities within
the healthcare sector.
Future
proofing the profession quickly emerged as the overarching
theme. The constant changes in health care policy have been reflected
in the health library and information profession, possibly making
it a blueprint for the profession .
The presentation
will outline:
The consultative process which the group used to establish its
findings
The findings of the report and the implications for the health
information professon, and library and information community more
widely
The role of CILIP and Health Libraries Group (HLG) in taking forward
the recommendations and implications
After the
formal presentation, an interactive session will take place. This
will involve group discussions on the above, which will stimulate
further debate on the future of our profession, and the role that
health information professionals should play. The discussion will
also include recommendations on the role that HLG (part of the organising
group of the HEAG) should play in the implementation of the findings
and in supporting its members in the future.
