Farrow 
Biography
Emma Farrow
has worked for University of the West of England since 2002 and
is now one of the Health and Social Care library team. She
has been involved with the charity Partnerships in Health Information
, which oversees partnerships between health libraries in the UK
and developing countries, throughout the same period. The
link with Phi was established during a two year VSO placement in
a teaching hospital in Sri Lanka.
Abstract
Working in a different
country – the impact of culture and tradition on professional activities
and information for health
The presentation
draws upon the personal experiences of Emma Farrow and co-author
Jean Shaw, Phi Programmes Officer, who have both worked with library
colleagues in developing countries. Sensitivity to cultural differences
is presented as an important part of successful partnership working,
with references to language and communication, social structures
and work-based practice.
